Cookery: Traditional Chinese Dishes NEW
Great food doesn’t need to be difficult, this course is designed to be suitable for all abilities and tastes. Learn how to cook authentic, healthy and delicious Chinese food with fresh ingredients like a native. Dishes taught during this term will include …
• Hongshao Pork & Shaobing
• Steamed Pork Shao Mai
• Chicken and sticky rice wrapped in a lotus leaf
• Sichuan Dandan Noodles
No previous knowledge required, suitable for all levels from beginners to more experienced cooks. You just need a passion for cooking healthy and delicious Chinese food.
You will receive an introductory talk and explanation to give you some background to the cuisine, followed by
step-by-step demonstration of the dishes. You will then prepare the dishes yourself with one-to-one help from
your tutor as required. Recipe hand-outs will be provided.
You will have gained the skills and knowledge to cook basic traditional Chinese cuisine.
An ingredients list will be sent out before the first lesson. Basic equipment is provided in the school kitchens, but in addition you will need to bring a steamer with lid to cook steamed Shao Mai in the second week, a tea towel, dish cloth or kitchen roll and containers to transport your food home in.
You will need to shop for ingredients in advance. However, should the course not run due to circumstances beyond our control we will not be able to take responsibility for the cost of those ingredients.
At the start of the course you will be given your own individual learning plan. Your tutor will record your entry level and together you will track your progress and achievements.
We will support learners to make informed choices about their next steps by providing appropriate individual and/or group information, advice, and/or guidance tailored to need and desired outcomes. Further Chinese cookery classes are available at this centre, as well as Indian, Vietnamese and Caribbean cookery, baking and cake decorating classes. Visit www.aclearning.org.uk for full details.
