Course Cookery: Chinese Take-Away Favourites NEW

We all love Chinese food but how would you like to cook those take-away favourites at home, more delicious and authentic than your local restaurant? Our Chinese chef will inspire you with her know-how and help you to create three different delicious dishes including sweet and sour pork or chicken, chicken in black bean sauce and chicken and cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce plus authentic egg fried rice to take home and enjoy with your family and friends.

Required Skills No previous knowledge required, suitable for all levels from beginners to more experienced cooks.
Teaching Method You will receive an introductory talk and explanation to give you some background to the cuisine, followed by step-by-step demonstration of the dishes, then you will prepare the dishes yourself with one-to-one help from your tutor as required. Recipe hand-outs will be provided.
Outcomes You will have learned to cook a variety of Chinese dishes using authentic ingredients and methods, and taken those dishes home to enjoy with your friends and family.
Materials required An ingredients list will be sent out before the day – ingredients are likely to cost in the region of £30. Basic equipment is provided in the school kitchens but in addition you will need to bring a pair of chopsticks as well as a tea towel, washing up liquid, dish cloths and containers to transport your food home in. Please bring a packed lunch. Tea and coffee are provided free of charge but in order to avoid waste we are asking learners to bring their own re-usable coffee cups.
Homework required You will need to shop for ingredients in advance. However, should the course not run due to circumstances beyond our control, we will not be able to take responsibility for the cost of those ingredients.
Assessment At the start of the course you will be given your own individual learning plan. Your tutor will record your entry level and together you will track your progress and achievements. At the end of the day you will photograph your dishes to record your progress.
Progression to We will support learners to make informed choices about their next steps by providing appropriate individual and/or group information, advice, and/or guidance tailored to need and desired outcomes.
