Course British Sign Language - An Introduction
Description

You will learn a multitude of signs – topics which include: finger spelling, family, emotions, numbers, colours and much more. You will be taught to understand facial expressions, hand shapes and tips for fluency, all of which lead you to communicate using British Sign Language.

Required Skills No experience required. Ideally you will be hearing and able to use your fingers easily.
Teaching Method Interactive teaching – games, props, sign singing (Sign supported English). Group work and 1:1 work. Handouts. Continual re-cap.
Outcomes You will be able to fingerspell and use your newly acquired skills in sign language to ask relevant everyday questions and hold general basic conversations with deaf and the hard of hearing.
Materials required Please bring along something to write with, to write on and to file it in.
Homework required There will be no homework given. However, to become more proficient practise would be extremely beneficial.
Assessment At the start of the course you will be given your own individual learning plan. Your tutor will record your entry level and together you will track your progress and understanding on a weekly basis.
Progression to The next step is BSL Level 1. We will support learners to make informed choices about their next steps by providing appropriate individual and/or group information, advice, and/or guidance tailored to need and desired outcomes.
