Course Art: Watercolour Landscapes Workshop NEW

You will be painting a local scene including water and reflections. Useful tips for adding boats and people will also be taught. A colour reference and simplified drawing will be supplied on the day.

Your tutor has painted in watercolours for over 50 years and he adopts a loose, free style when painting landscapes. He has taught watercolour painting for many years and in this workshop you will learn the secrets of successful landscape painting.

Required Skills No formal qualifications are necessary, only a desire to be creative and a willingness to learn techniques to improve your painting. If you enjoyed art at school, or have always wanted to ‘have a go’ at watercolour painting, then this workshop is for you.
Teaching Method The workshop will include demonstrations and question time, but is mostly practical. During the class there will be plenty of opportunity for one-to-one assistance. Towards the end of the session there will be time for everyone to come together and discuss what has been achieved and to compare paintings, if you wish.
Outcomes By the end of the course, learners will have increased confidence and ability in painting by plenty of hands on experience and will have improved their techniques.
Materials required Please bring your usual watercolour materials along with the following: Paints (pans or tubes) Cobalt Blue French Ultramarine Cadmium Red Alizarin Crimson Cadmium Yellow Yellow Ochre Burnt Sienna Sepia Viridian Designer Gouache opaque white (tube only) (If you can't get the gouache white, we will only use a little so don't worry) Brushes Wash Brush No.12 Round No.6 Round No.2 Rigger (or No.2 Round) Watercolour Paper 300gsm (140lb) thickness Cold pressed (NOT) surface minimum A4 size, 16 x 12 inches recommended Plus Pencil (B or HB) Pencil sharpener and rubber Water container and good size palette and cloth/kitchen roll We would strongly recommend you try and bring a large soft brush for applying washes.
