Course Bridge - Beginners Part 2

This is term two of a progressive (three term) course starting in September and you will need to register before the start of each term.
The daytime class will take place at Hartford Village Hall. The course will cover the basics of Acol Bridge with a weak NT. Opening bids, responding and intervening. Strong twos, pre-emptive bids, and how to get to a game, slam and grand slam. Participants will understand the difference between duplicate, playing teams and Chicago. They will also understand how to get into the best contract for their side.
The course will introduce participants to a new skill that will enable them to join a Bridge club, and develop another social life.

Required Skills An interest in playing cards. For Parts 2 and 3 some previous knowledge of playing cards is expected, eg whist.
Teaching Method Your tutor will teach the basic principles of Bridge. There will be lecture, explanation, group work, with practical workshops to reinforce what has been taught. There will be competitions to aid understanding. Group discussions will help to reinforce what has been learnt.
Outcomes Learners attending all three terms will be able to join a local Bridge club, make new friends and develop another social life at a very small cost.
Materials required None required for this class. Cards if you wish to practise at home.
Homework required Homework will be given most weeks to help with the understanding of what we have learnt that week.
Assessment At the start of the course you will be given your own individual learning plan. Your tutor will record your entry level and together you will track your progress and achievements.
Progression to We will support learners to make informed choices about their next steps by providing appropriate individual and/or group information, advice, and/or guidance tailored to need and desired outcomes. Bridge Club and/or Bridge - Improvers. There are duplicate and Chicago Bridge clubs in the area. The EBU (English Bridge Union) is the recognised organisation which sets the rules. If you wanted to obtain an official ranking you would need to play at an EBU club.
