Course Investments - An Introduction
Description

Join us to gain more than a basic knowledge and understanding of investments, starting with concepts such as the time value of money, the main types of risk and the different types of investment products (savings, shares, bonds, funds etc). We will look at how economic news affects investments and how tax can affect decisions. We will learn how to analyse the performance of investments and how to trade off risk and return. The course will also help learners understand the main investment theories but will be grounded with practical tips.

Required Skills A confident understanding of basic maths. An interest in business and money.
Teaching Method Lectures, group work, discussion, optional home reading.
Outcomes You will be able to: • Apply the principles of time value of money • Understand the nature and impact of the main types of investment risk • Understand the main characteristics of retail investment products • Analyse the performance of investments
Materials required A hand held scientific calculator and/or laptop with Microsoft Excel installed.
Homework required Some reading between lessons if you wish.
Assessment At the start of the course you will be given your own individual learning plan. Your tutor will record your entry level and together you will track your progress and achievements.
