Course First Aid
Description

This one day course covers lots of different aspects of giving first aid, such as: acting safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency, CPR, treating an unconscious casualty (including seizure), wounds and bleeding, shock, minor injuries, choking, preventing cross infection, recording incidents and actions and the use of available equipment, such as a defibrillator.
Additionally there may be an overview of burns, anaphylaxis, heart attack, stroke, epilepsy and diabetes.
Exam available for additional £15.00, please contact the Adult Learning office ahead of the workshop for details. Please bring photo ID with you to show the tutor in order to sit the exam.

Required Skills A sense of humour, class participation, willingness to learn.
Teaching Method Slide presentation, white board, group work, one to one, question and answers.

Materials required Please bring photo ID with you in order to sit the exam. Please wear loose comfortable trousers as this is a practical course. You will need a packed lunch. You will need to bring a pen and paper if you want to take notes. Tea and coffee are provided free of charge but in order to avoid waste we are asking learners to bring their own re-usable coffee cups if possible.

Assessment The pratical assessment of this course is continuous. On successful completion of the workshop you will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Progression to First Aid at Work (three day course) where available. Paediatric First Aid one day course. We will support learners to make informed choices about their next steps by providing appropriate individual and/or group information, advice, and/or guidance tailored to need and desired outcomes.
