Course French - Franglais into Français! - Improvers

This is a progressive three term course starting in September, and you need to register before the start of each term. Learners may join at terms 2 and 3 depending on ability. It builds on the Beginner’s French course, and will cover areas such as:
• Talking about events in the past tense, as well as talking about thoughts and feelings in the past tense.
• Talking about events that will happen in the future.
• To/by/in/of and other prepositions.
• Improving your pronouns.
• Reading real French, building up to being able to understand the main points in simple newspaper articles.
• Practice speaking French in different situations.
• This course will also focus more on perfecting pronunciation.
• The flexibility of this course also means that topics can be adapted to suit the needs of the class, any specific areas which learners raise can usually be accommodated.

The taster option will allow you to come for two weeks to experience the course. If you choose to continue, the cost will be deducted from the full course fee.

Required Skills You will need to have completed the Beginner’s French course or have knowledge of French from holidays, travel or business - ie you should be able to express yourself in basic French. Some familiarity with the basic past tense, some familiarity with reflexive verbs, although refreshers of both will be given at the start of the course, so this is not a hard and fast requirement. There are no vocabulary requirements, as there will be vocabulary building exercises and homework. Some familiarity with words such as ‘verb’, ‘preposition’, ‘reflexive’, ‘passé composé’ would be useful, but not essential.
Teaching Method Lessons will be taught by: • Group work • Pair work • Discussions • Speaking Practice • Listening Practice – using 100% real examples including songs and audio recordings. • Reading Practice
Outcomes If you attend all three terms you will have broadened your knowledge of the French language.
Materials required Pen, paper and a sense of fun and enjoyment! A dictionary would be a good idea, for home study, although free dictionaries exist online or as apps on smart phones and these would be sufficient. A verb table book would be of use later in the course, but again these can be found for free online and in apps costing a few pence.
Homework required Homework will be set most weeks; it will mostly involve perfecting written French but may include some research into vocabulary (e.g. Finding a number of words to do with a set theme).
Assessment At the start of the course you will be given your own individual learning plan. Your tutor will record your entry level and together you will track your progress and achievements.
Progression to We will support learners to make informed choices about their next steps by providing appropriate individual and/or group information, advice, and/or guidance tailored to need and desired outcomes. A more advanced French course, Elargissez vos Horizons, is available at this centre. Please see our website for details.
