Course Art: Watercolour Landscapes - Beginners
Description

This course is for beginners and those wishing to return to art after a long absence. This course will focus on watercolours with a little drawing using pencil during the first half-term. You will be taught basic techniques as you paint.
Topics such as tonal work (light and shade), composition and perspective will be covered and explained clearly. Subjects covered will include landscape, still life and working from photographs. You will also be introduced to the basics of watercolours, as the drawing skills you have gained will provide a foundation for progression to Watercolours.

Required Skills No formal qualifications are necessary, only a desire to be creative and a willingness to learn techniques to improve your drawing. If you enjoyed art at school, or have always wanted to 'have a go' at art, then this is the class for you.
Teaching Method The class will usually include a short tutor demonstration and a chance to ask questions but is mostly practical. During the class there will be plenty of opportunity for one-to-one assistance. Towards the end of the session there will be time for everyone to come together and discuss what has been achieved and to compare drawings and paintings, if you wish.
Outcomes By the end of the course, learners will have increased confidence and ability in drawing by plenty of hands on experience and will have improved their techniques.
Materials required If you already have a selection of watercolour materials please bring them with you to the first lesson. If you have no materials yet, please do not worry, you will not need them until lesson two. In the first lesson the tutor will discuss and explain the materials you need in detail, with advice on buying and some on-line suppliers to consider. You can expect to pay £25-30 for your basic kit comprising a couple of brushes, a selection of tubes of watercolour paint, some watercolour paper and a few sundry items like a mixing palette, a pencil, eraser and pencil sharpener. If you have purchased items in advance and should the course not run due to circumstances beyond our control, we will not be able to take responsibility for the cost of those materials.
Homework required There will be no formal homework, but as with all skills, practice makes perfect, so you will benefit from trying to do a little drawing every day, even doodles!
Assessment At the start of the course you will be given your own individual learning plan. Your tutor will record your entry level and together you will track your progress and achievements.
Progression to We will support learners to make informed choices about their next steps by providing appropriate individual and/or group information, advice, and/or guidance tailored to need and desired outcomes. You will be able to progress on your own or with a painting group. Join ‘Watercolour Landscapes – Beginners Plus’ at this Centre with the same tutor.
