Description

This course is for those who are interested in painting a sprig of Holly or Ivy in detail using watercolours. Learners will be provided with plant samples to draw as well as learn how to study and practice observation skills in pencil. Learners will be encouraged to use a sketchbook to develop their observation techniques.

This study could make a lovely Christmas Card design.

The tutor will demonstrate simple watercolour techniques with advice on colour mixing and provide one to one support on how to complete a simple Botanical Study of Holly or Ivy.

Required Skills Some experience of sketching and painting plants and flowers using watercolours.
Teaching Method Practical workshop demonstrations and one to one support by tutor.
Outcomes By the end of the course, learners will have increased confidence and ability in drawing by plenty of hands on experience and will have improved their techniques.
Materials required Medium weight white sketchbook suitable for light wash. 2B, HB and 2H pencil. A rubber, pair of dividers or compass. Watercolour paper 140lbs 300gms hot pressed if possible. A selection of watercolour paints. White china plate or palette and selection of brushes. As this course is not suitable for complete beginners, it is assumed learners will already have some art materials. Costs could be up to £40 depending on quality of paints and materials used. Please bring a packed lunch (free tea and coffee provided.)

Assessment The tutor will carry out some form of initial assessment for this course.
